Introducing Flare Nails!
Are you growing tired of your almond-shaped nails? Want to turn them into triangular monstrosities? Okay then. Have you heard of Flared nails? For those who don’t know what flared nails are, they are nails that will give you a flashback of the 70s.
This style is also referred to as “duck feet nails.” This is because the nail shape fans out like flared jeans or duck’s feet. They can either be short or long. They certainly aren’t subtle. These nails feature an extensive range of designs from glittery to Hello Kitty to a classic French manicure twist.
This is a significant divergence from the conventional long, thin, talon-like style nails that have been so popular lately.
Even though they are currently getting massive traction, they aren’t that new.
In 2011, Maggie Franklin, an Art of Nailz artist, spoke about them on her blog. She described them as a style many traders of the craft were reluctant to do.
She wrote, they were structurally and inherently unstable. Also, they were way off-balance and had more weight on the nail bed. She also said that flared nails were a disaster in the making, given that the weight was spread over so much space.
There are “a lot of free edges which get caught on things, resulting in additional breaking and lifting.”
What’s more, they look as if they will make your typical everyday roles that more daunting.
The nail trends cycle was perfectly summed up by Franklin.
She wrote, you better believe that in the coming 10 years you will be reminiscing on those duck feet nails in your photo album and wonder what you were thinking was ‘cool’ as you laugh at yourself. And worse yet, in another five years, chances are they will be in style again.
How To Get The Look
You can create the look by either using a gel or acrylic. As beauty blog Glambo stated, you should make the application as though you want to create an artificial nail, except where the pink meets up with the white. You should start slow and add white product outward towards the sides to make a flared shape. The nail tips shouldn’t be longer compared to the nail bed. Otherwise you risk the nail possibly breaking. Finally, to achieve a full duck foot-like effect, you can finish off the nail using a sharp square tip. You don’t necessarily have to go for the actual natural appeal. Instagram lovers who have created this particular style have gone far and wide to ensure their fingers are popping with color. Others have decided to go for the more natural look.
Some have decided to go for color.
To complete their manicure, some Instagramers have opted for extras like gems to finish their manicure
Others have gone for floral embellishments
Some sticking to dazzling glitter
But, these are some of the extensive nails we have seen.
Regardless of how we try, we are not seeing this look making a comeback. Flared trousers are our standpoint right now.
