Finding The Right Foundation For Your Skin Tone

Finding The Right Foundation For Your Skin Tone

Choosing the right foundation for your skin type is a struggle many people go through. If you have ever seen someone with the wrong shade of makeup on, you understand how important getting it right is. You could have even been in the same shoes yourself. It is hard to admit right?

The makeup could be a lighter shade than the skin and make her look like a ghost. For others, the makeup could be a darker shade, making her look like she has a bad sunburn. Either way, it is never a good look and you should avoid those mistakes like the plague.

Admittedly, it can be tricky choosing the correct type of makeup for your skin, but it is not impossible. Continue reading if you want to have your makeup always picture perfect. Like most things though, there is a process to go through before you can get to that perfect stage.

What Is Your Skin Tone?

When was the last time you actively thought about your skin type and how it plays a role in the type of makeup you buy? Be honest, you probably don’t give it much thought right? Well, that is the first thing that needs to be corrected.

Choosing the wrong shade of makeup for your skin does not only affect how you look. The makeup you buy spends a lot of time in direct contact with your skin, enough for something to go wrong somewhere.

Your skin should feel good when coming into contact with your makeup. Forcing your skin to interact with makeup that has the wrong formulas or ingredients all day is not helping you look fresh. Which is the ultimate goal, right?

As difficult as it can be for you to find the perfect makeup for your skin tone, it is something you need to figure out. It is usually worth the trouble at the end of the day. You do not want to end up looking like an orange clown or a porcelain doll. Your makeup should blend seamlessly with your natural skin tone.

If you need any extra motivation, picture yourself in that amazing makeup, looking like a million bucks. Is that enough motivation? Good, keep reading to find out how you can make that happen.

The first step in finding the perfect foundation for your skin tone is to first find out what skin tone you have. But to determine that, you need to know what skin tone is.

Skin tone refers to the amount of melanin that is in your epidermis, which is the outermost layer of your skin. Now, when your skin is exposed to sunlight, melanin is produced to absorb the harmful rays of the sun.

Because of this, determining your skin tone could be affected by how much time you spend in the sun. But one thing is constant; you were born with a particular skin tone. It could be one of these:

Light

If you live anywhere with frequent snow and lots of cloud coverage, you are most likely light-skinned. The abundant cloud cover means the skin does not have to produce much melanin. If you have a light skin tone, you are more likely to get sunburned easily. You should be sure to incorporate UV protection into your makeup routine.

Medium

People with medium skin tone usually come from Southern Europe and Northern Asia. If you have this skin tone, you have probably heard your skin described as “olive” at some point. This skin tone is well balanced and makes finding the right foundation quite easy.

An added benefit of this skin type is that you probably look beautifully golden after a few hours in the sun. But that does not mean that you are immune to the harmful effects of sunlight.

Dark

This skin tone originates from places in the world that get lots of sunlight, like the Middle East, Africa, and India. Like those with medium skin tones, keep your sunscreen handy. You could still damage your skin if you are overexposed to UV rays from sunlight.

It is important to note that these skin tones are grouped in broad terms. There are people that fall into some shades in-between. This is where your skin undertone comes in. It helps you determine your particular skin tone variation.

What Is Your Skin Undertone?

The term skin undertone refers to the muted and subtle colors beneath your skin. Think of it as a shadow under your skin that is always there, lurking in the background. While some external factors, like sunlight, might affect your skin tone, your undertone always remains the same.

Finding the perfect foundation for your skin tone means you need to determine your unique skin undertone and match it. Here are the different types of skin undertones:

Cool: Red, Pink with bluish tints

Warm: Yellow, peachy or golden tints

Neutral: Olive, or a balanced combination of the tints above.

Now that you understand what skin tones and skin undertones are, you need to know how to determine which one you have. There are some simple DIY processes that can help you out. Here they are:

Determining Your Skin Tone/Undertone

You already know what to look for because you know what skin tone and undertone mean. So finding out which category you fall into should be a breeze. Here are a few ways for you to determine your skin tone:

Look At Your Face In Natural Light

If you apply makeup to your face and notice a grey tint, then you did not choose the right foundation for your skin tone. To remedy this, wash off the makeup and wait 15 minutes.

Wear a white shirt, stand in natural light, preferable sunlight. Grab a mirror and observe your jaw so you can get your surface skin color (skin tone).

If your skin appears to be yellow/red, then you have a warm skin tone. But, if it appears more bluish pink, then you are working with a cool skin tone.

The Vein Test

This is a simple test to determine your skin tone. Simply flip your wrists over and examine your veins. If your veins appear to be blue or purple, you probably have a cool skin undertone. Alternatively, if they appear green, you probably have a warm skin undertone. If you can’t tell, either way, you probably have a neutral skin undertone.

The Silver/Gold Test

This is one test that a lot of ladies can get right behind. All you need to do is wear your favorite jewelry. If silver seems to complement your skin better than gold, then you likely have a cool undertone. If it is the other way round, then you are more of a warm skin tone girl.

This test is a bit out of date and more subjective than the others. Most people’s jewelry boxes contain pieces with a fair mixture of both anyways. But you can still try it out for size.

Now that you have been able to figure out your skin tone and skin undertone, you can go into your favorite beauty store with confidence. Now you know what to do and what to pick. You are going to learn how to choose the right makeup for your skin tone shortly.

Choosing The Right Foundation For Your Skin Tone

As you well know, your foundation is probably the most important part of your makeup routine. It is the base, where everything else goes and it has to be perfect if you want flawless looking skin. You have to choose the correct shade, the right product for your skin type, and know the look you are trying to create.

It does seem like a lot of pressure for choosing one product right? Well, it could be, but the right knowledge can make it so much easier. Because it is not just about the color or choosing the right shade. It is also about choosing loose powders, or tinted moisturizers. Maybe you want a matte look instead of a dewy one. The makeup formula matters too.

Even the way you apply it is important, there are many factors involved. Don’t get confused though, you will be taken through the entire process step by step. Keep reading to find out how to get your foundation just right.

Factors You Should Consider When Choosing Your Foundation

So, we are down to brass tacks. You need to answer a list of questions about yourself and your skin before you can get the right foundation. First of all, how would you describe your skin? Oily? Dry? Normal? Sensitive?

Once you’ve answered that, try to figure out the biggest issue you are currently having with your foundation. Does it disappear too early, or look flaky and dull? Maybe it feels heavy or it irritates your skin.

You should also figure out the things about your face, if any, that you are trying to hide with makeup. Maybe you have large pores, acne, redness or brown spots that you are trying to hide. Maybe you are not hiding anything and just want a general covering that will smooth your face. Whichever one it is, keep that at the back of your mind when choosing your foundation.

Finally, what look are you hoping to achieve? Do you want the best dewy look or a more understated matte look? Maybe you just want to look natural or even? All these factors will ultimately influence the type of foundation you should get.

Buying Your Foundation

Do you have oily skin, a few acne spots to cover, and your makeup doesn’t stay? Then you should stay away from oily makeup.

When you put oily makeup on an already oily face everything turns into a slippery slide. Your foundation can literally break down and slide off. Try to choose an oil-free makeup with lightweight silicon. This will help the makeup stay but won’t clog up your spores.

Do you have dry skin and are going for a dewy look? Does your makeup always look flaky and dull? Then you should switch to a creamy liquid foundation. You can boost the hydration of your skin with a foundation that contains moisturizing ingredients like glycerin. Remember to go for one that also provides protection from the sun if you have light or medium-toned skin.

The next category of ladies have it all figured out already. You have normal skin, you want a natural look and you don’t really have any issues with your makeup. You can just put up your feet and rest. You have low maintenance skin and can wear any foundation you want. Although, it is recommended that you go for a sheer foundation with light-reflecting particles.

Finally, if you have sensitive skin, there is a perfect solution for you: mineral makeup. Most of these mineral foundation liquids have loose minerals like Zinc that can help soothe your skin. They are also free of potential irritants like parabens and fragrance.

You are now ready to go shopping for your new foundation makeup. But first, here are some important tips to consider.

Tips For Shopping For Your Foundation

This is where you can shop for the perfect foundation that fits your skin tone. Keep these tips at the back of your mind when you are in a drugstore or beauty shop:

Ask For Help

If you are lucky enough to shop in a store that allows you to try out the product before buying, then perfect. If not, ask for help and get a trained makeup artist to color match you.

Make Sure To Test The Right Spot

Also, make sure that you test the right spot on your face. The best place to test makeup on your face is your jawline. This helps you compare with your neck which is usually paler than your face. If you have the right shade, it should disappear into your skin.

Always Go To Natural Light

The harsh fluorescents inside most stores can be deceptive when you are trying on makeup. Those harsh lights don’t do anybody any good. Try to find the nearest window or skylight where you can try the makeup on.

Do Your Homework

Even before entering the store, you can do most of the legwork yourself. There are some brands, like L’Oreal and CoverGirl, that have complexion matching apps on their website. You could try those out before going to the store.

When In Doubt, Go Darker

This is a pretty important tip. If for some reason you can’t seem to get your shade down, go darker. It is better to go darker and look tan than to go too light and look chalky.

The last bus stop on this journey to find the correct type of makeup for your skin is the application. Yes, it might not seem important, but it is easy to do it wrong.

Applying Your Makeup

This is also important in getting that perfect final look. You do not want to go through all that trouble to find the perfect shade and then drop the ball at the finish line. Different makeup formulas require different forms of application. Here are some tips that can help you with applying your makeup:

Tinted Moisturizers and BB Creams– You can rub these into your skin with your fingers.

Liquids (foundation), Mousse and Creams- For these products, you want to get a brush. Flat-topped brushes with synthetic bristles are especially good. This is because synthetic bristles will not absorb the makeup as natural bristles would. Blend outward, and buff in a circular motion, starting from the center of your face.

Powders– You can use a fluffy brush to sweep powder up and down the T-zone. A good tip is to leave the cheeks bare to give you that glow. Also, use a brush with dense bristles for more coverage.

Conclusion

You are now officially a makeup queen. Finding the right makeup for your skin doesn’t get easier than this. You should be able to blend your foundation perfectly with your skin now. Make sure to keep it light and be patient. If you do not get it the first time, try again until you get the best foundation for your skin type.

Best Pixie Cuts For 2020 And How To Wear Them

If you were asked to take a pair of scissors to your hair, chances are you would probably hesitate. You could go downright bonkers and defend the honor of your hair with that same pair of scissors. Whichever way you swing, there is one sure thing, most ladies are protective of their long, luscious hairstyles.

It comes as a surprise then that short bob haircuts have become a fashionable and trendy hairstyle. Pixie cuts are the star of the show in this new era of short hair. Celebrities are all on board and runway icons are not too far behind either. If you check out any list of stylish hairstyle trends, you will see a few pixie cuts nestled in there.

More About Pixie Haircuts

Pixie cuts are the epitome of stylish, snazzy and comfy hairstyles. What’s more, they are very easy to maintain. You would think cutting your hair so short would not look feminine, but that’s not true at all. Getting a pixie cut makes you look chic and sexy.

A pixie cut is a modern short crop that could be different lengths. This could range from about half an inch to three inches. Pixie cuts can be customized based on your preference. The cut could be uniform on all sides, there could be a gradation, or it could all just be haphazard. Whatever style works for you.

The hairstyle has progressed through different fashion eras. It started in the ‘50s when iconic actresses sported the cut to the amazement of many. Then the ‘60s rolled around and the magazine models started making the look even more popular.

Now, the hairstyle has made a strong comeback. Pixie cuts are one of the hottest hair trends in 2020. You cannot go far in Hollywood without seeing an A-list actress sporting a variation of this cut. Models, musicians and even female athletes are not left out.

Why Is The Pixie Cut Becoming So Popular?

There has to be some reasons why everyone is jumping on this hair trend right? Yes, absolutely! Here are some of the reasons the pixie haircut is so popular:

Low Maintenance and Styling Options

The pixie cut is one of the lowest maintenance hairstyles you will ever have. It only takes a few minutes to style, perfect for those who don’t have much time to get ready every morning. Just a few minutes in front of the mirror and you are out the door.

Also, it helps you save on salon visits and hair products. It generally costs less to maintain a pixie cut than most other hairstyles

Beautifying Power

This is one haircut that can be crafted for your face shape and complexion to create a perfect look. It is almost like going to a tailor to get a suit created rather than getting one off the rack.

The right hairstylist can create a pixie cut that will emphasize your best attributes. Frame your face in the right way, emphasize your features, and cover up your flaws. This is the beautifying power that you get from the pixie cut.

Color Experimentation

This is a good reason to get a pixie cut in 2020. Because the hair is short, the risk of damaging the hair is lower. This gives you a lot of freedom of expression when it comes to colors and styles.

You can get creative with your hair colors without having to worry about bleaching your hair. This is because your short pixie cut will soon grow out and regenerate.

Choosing The Right Pixie Cut For Your Face Type

In 2020, getting a pixie cut is no longer about taking scissors to your hair and getting a boyish cut. 2020 pixie haircuts are classy, elegantly cut and gently frames the face.

So, it is not enough to go to your salon and get a pixie cut. You have to get one that is perfect for your particular face shape. Keep reading to find out how to choose the best pixie hairstyles for your face type.

Round Face

If you have a round face, you can have your hair cut with cloves with a high neck that looks stunning. Also, torn or asymmetric bangs can be a great accompaniment to a round face.

To complete your pixie look, you can go for elongated side locks that go down to just below the chin. This will hide the roundness of your face and add some interesting angles to it.

Triangular Face

When you are looking at a hairstyle for a triangular face, the first thing is to forget about the volume. Keep the strands of your pixie cut above the chin. For bangs, make sure they are short and straight or elongated or asymmetric. This will help distract from the chin.

Square Face

If you have a square face, you probably already know that finding the right haircut is not a walk in the park. Luckily for you, pixie cuts and bobs are perfect for you.

Going for a pixie cut with asymmetric side strands and an elongated slanting bang can tone down the angular nature of your face. In fact, any short haircut that will frame your face with curly short hair will look good.

Oval Face Tips

If you have this face shape, you are the undisputed queen. You could go bald and it would still fit you. Want to know the best 2020 pixie cuts for you? Go square or go home. Yes, and you can have this with extensions too.

Best Pixie Cuts For 2020

Finally, some fabulous pixie haircuts are coming your way. There are many different types of pixie haircuts. Contrary to what some people might believe, anybody can rock a pixie hairstyle.

You only have to choose a style that complements your face and hair. Any woman of any age and with any hair color can rock the pixie cut flawlessly. Here are some pixie cuts you should not sleep on in 2020:

Long Pixie Cut With Long Bangs

This is a hairstyle that is perfect for you if you are not ready to cut your hair so short. It is short and pixie like, but it is also long. This cut will still leave some hair around your face to make you feel more comfortable about going short.

It is also much easier to grow out a long pixie without having to go through those awkward stages.

Layered Short Pixie Cut

This is the best pixie cut for you if you have thick hair. For this hairstyle, the hair is cut really short and then texturized at the sides and neck. The volume on top is kept to round off the look.

Fighting with your hair every morning to get it to behave is not something anyone wants. This pixie cut is a quick fix for you. Get your hairstylist to try this out on you.

Layered Long Pixie Cut

This is a style for women over thirty. If you are in this category, choosing to go the longer route with your pixie cut could give really cute results. Oh, and it’s very easy to style. To achieve this look, have your hairstylist blow out your strands to give it more volume.

Then you can use your fingers and a handy hair product to separate your strands into sections. This gives you the classic piecey look that you can rock anywhere, anytime.

Pixie Wedge

This pixie cut is in constant danger of becoming a Dorothy Hamill wedge. But then, that’s the whole point, isn’t it? To get this look, you can have your hairstylist keep the tops and sides of your hair longer than a traditional pixie. This adds some volume and gives you a bit of flexibility with the shape. This is a classic cut any day, any time.

Short And Shaggy

If you have a mop of natural wavy hair on your head and you are thinking – “Should I get a pixie cut?” This hairstyle is the answer to your musings. This pixie cut looks great if you can pull it off.

Classic Pixie Cut

This is the hairstyle that comes to mind when you hear the words “short hair.” This is where all pixie cuts started. This classic cut features short hair on the sides and back and is slightly longer on top.

The coolest thing about this cut is its simplicity, and you can style it any way you want. If you are sticking to this classic pixie cut, you might want to spice things up with an unusual hair color. Strawberry pink or silver blonde? It all works.

Two Tone Pixie Cut

A disconnected haircut might be a little too edgy for working professionals. You might hear people say that there is no such thing as age specific hairstyles. There are still some rules that govern some workplaces though.

It is possible that many of the modern pixie cuts might be too bold for someone that requires only a smidgen of sass. If this is you, you can ask your hairstylist to add a little texture throughout, and give you a two toned look. A neat trick would be to add a little pomade to give it a bit more shine.

Punky Pixie With The Undercut

This pixie cut is as edgy as you can go. It can show your rebellious side and also give a nod to your ‘girliness,’ all in one look! To get this look, keep the hair on the top of your head high and give the sides an undercut. It does look really great if you get the look done right.

Tapered Pixie Cut

This pixie cut is a mild one. It is less extreme than the bolder disconnected undercut pixie. The taper here gives the pixie a softer look than you would get from your conventional short cut. It is an understated cut but it has some good bones.

Choppy Bowl-Cut Pixie

This interesting pixie cut could look really hot if you are short. This hairstyle has the nape and sides undercut and is then topped with a choppy layer.

This pixie cut gives you a cool look that can give you a confidence boost all day long. Consult with your hairstylist and find out if you can pull this look off. If the answer is yes, by all means go for it.

Short Slicked Pixie

If you are not a fan of always having to move hair away from your face, you should try the short-slicked pixie cut.

You need to secure your haircut in place at the beginning of the day with gel or wax. A good tip to remember is that you should tease a few strands of hair out and let them hang free. This prevents you from looking like you just had a date with Mr. potato head. It does require a little bit of maintenance though.

Very Short Pixie Cut With Side Bangs

Many may see bangs as that full part of hair that always falls down your face and covers everything. Well, that is not always the case, the truth is, bangs can be whatever you want them to be.

So, if you want to add some spice to your classic short pixie, why not incorporate this tiny, choppy fringe? Get your hairstylist on the line and have a go at it, you will be glad you did.

Asymmetrical Short Pixie Cut

This pixie cut looks absolutely gorgeous! You can easily create a new look by sweeping it to the side and spicing it up with a fringe. That side swept look is to die for, especially for those with a round face.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with your colors here. The haircut is already super edgy, why not go all the way? You can go for a vibrant purple or a bright red.

Pixie Cut For Curly Hair

Going for a pixie cut is always a good idea when you are in the market for a short hairstyle for thick wavy hair. Since you already have the volume with your wavy hair, the style looks especially good.

You can have your hairstylist keep the layers at the back a little shorter. Then use some texturizing spray to add that extra bit of bounce to the front of your pixie cut.

Short Edgy Pixie With Undercut

This pixie cut features shaved sides that add an extra level of sass to this particular look. So, if you are bold enough, go for a short cut and have that bold undercut added for more spice. Remember to style the top in a way that will stand out. That is it! Your perfect look for the day.

Conclusion

It has been a nice walk through the pixie haircut styles for 2020 that are creating a big splash in the style and fashion world. It seems 2020 is the year of the pixie cut, don’t you think? You should get in on the ground floor. There are obviously several great styles to choose from, and it can be confusing.

How To Style Short Hair: With 15 Simple And Chic Styles For Inspiration!

How To Style Short Hair

Today, short hairstyles are more in style than ever. Short hair is not only easy to maintain, but also very trendy. Many celebrities keep showing off their new short haircuts. Many women are joining the trend.

In fact, some have an itch to cut our hair shorter every month. From there, we go to Pinterest for inspiration on the trendiest looks for short hair, and consider making a big change. Some dare to go with a bold pixie, while others feel more comfortable with an elegant lob. But no matter your preference, many celebrities keep encouraging us to try out awesome short hairstyles for women.

Another good thing about short hair is the sheer versatility it offers. There are so many options when it comes to styling short hair. Plus, you can still try out trendy styles. This includes playing with texture and incorporating hair accessories.

But how short is ideal? How do you even layer a short hair style? What kind of styling can you work with? Well, taking the plunge into short hair styling requires a lot of courage. Depending on your original hair length, it often heralds a complete change in your look.

In this guide, you will learn everything you need to know about how to style short hair.

Remember this Before Going for the Chop

Short hair often seems to be low maintenance; but, it has to be styled on a daily basis. If you’re having a bad hair day, putting your hair in a bun is no longer an option. Still, the styling effort is usually worth it, and when you get a good cut, it should be easy to manage. As a tip, if you want to keep the short look easy and quick to style, the cut needs to be as precise as possible. Getting regular trims every 4 to 6 weeks is mandatory.

There are a few golden rules for every short haircut. First, after washing, you should always apply heat protection. Applying texturizing styling products and gel can give it more hold and grip. But, only use small amounts of gel or wax. Otherwise, you risk making your hair look stiff. A good idea is to stick to a hazelnut-sized amount of the product of your choice to give your hair a natural finish.

How To Choose A Short Hair Style

When choosing your cut, the first thing you want to do is consider your face type. Are you heart-shaped, oval, or angular? An oval face can easily get away with almost any kind of short haircut. The rest of the shapes need to consider how the cut can flatter their features best.

If you have a round face and want it to look slimmer, look for cuts that elongate and frame the face. A good example is a short cut with thinned out feathery bangs and long side sections. Side swept, layered bangs will flatter round or wide faces. The bangs should fall softly, to provide a good sense of balance to flatter the fairly broad or strong facial features. The best way to flatter heart-shaped faces is with short haircuts that have a lot of volume at the top. This creates an illusion of a wider chin, thereby creating harmony to the hair and face.

How To Style Short Hair

Forget the rollers and the round brush. You can actually style most short haircuts with your fingers alone. A proper flat-paddle brush will work well for the sleek styles, since the hair tends to cling onto the scalp. You can use the paddle brush while you blow-dry your hair. This will enhance the luster of your hair and won’t add unmanageable volume. You can also style on the fly using a skeleton brush with widely spaced bristles. The brush can also give your hair structure and some bounce.

Wax or Gel?

Wet gel, wax, gel wax, and styling lotion pomade are the ideal tools for sculpting short hair. Before settling on a product, you should decide on the styling details you want. Do you want a soft, dewy look? You can apply a little wax, gel wax, or pomade. These products contain several different conditioning oils. This can give your hair an alluring luster without making it rigid.

Apply a small amount of the product and work it through the hair with your hands from the base. As mentioned, avoid using too many styling products. Start with a pea-sized amount, as it will give you the option to add a little more later on. If you apply too much, consider shampooing to get them off.

Styling gels and waxing gels typically work well if you prefer the drenched beach look. They also work if you want your hair to stand up from your head a bit more. Both gels are available in different varieties from ultra-rigid to soft hold. You can find the details on the product description.

Volume

Short haircuts with long covering hair require good volume to look great. Hair spray, mousse, or powder will help to create bounce and volume without weighing your hair down. Ensure that you apply the product near the hair roots where it’s needed most to create the bounce. Volumizing products usually come in many different versions. This includes color-treated, over-processed, oily, and normal hair. Choose a product based on the structure of your hair and your conditioning needs. Normally, short hair doesn’t need more than a dollop, about half the size of a tennis ball.

Hold

Hair spray will help give your short hairstyle a sophisticated finish. It will keep your hair looking neat for a long period of time, and also protect it from the damaging UV rays. Make sure you spray from a distance of about 8 inches (20 cm) to make the spray settle on your hair as a very fine mist. As a tip, use hair spray before you work a little wax through your hair.

15 Inspiration Ideas For How To Style Short Hair

1. Short and Sleek

A short bob is the ultimate trend for a chic cool-girl. It’s the easiest style for those with naturally straight hair. You can still rock a sleek short bob if you have wavy or curly hair, but it will need a bit more upkeep. The secret to achieving a short, straight style without losing body is using a heat protectant spray. This spray should contain smoothing properties. It should also be applied before you use a straightener, regardless of your hair type. The heat activated polymers contained in most smoothing sprays will work to seal in hydration. This will prevent damage and dryness, and also reduce the drying time.

2. Piecey Pixie

If you have a pixie cut, you can punk it up using a product that adds shine and dimension to your hair. To achieve this look, blow-dry or brush dry hair out smooth. Then, lightly mist it with your favorite Mist Oil and style it using your hands. Try to break it up by twisting individual strands. This can help your hair reflect light and enhance its color. This method is ideal for color-treated or damaged hair.

3. Side cut

Unlike an undercut, the side cut has one very short side. The other side is kept longer, and is styled asymmetrically. The result is a dramatic, stylish look that maintains a casual vibe thanks to the short-cropped area.

4. Buzz Cut

The buzz cut exploded into the scene in 2017. It’s a polarizing cut that requires some serious courage to pull off; after all, it’s a super short cut. But it’s worth it. No other cut can garner the kind of attention that this one can. Be sure to check out the top of your head before going for it. There’s a general prerequisite for this cut; you need to have the “perfect” head shape, without dents or scars.

5. Mushroom

A mushroom cut will give you a young, playful look. You can keep your hair from looking too geometric and rigid by layering and using soft side bangs. This short haircut usually fits many types of faces. But, it should be avoided by those with round faces because the style will only make the face appear wider.

6. Spiky Hair

This is a short haircut. It’s characterized by short sides and much longer and layered upper lengths. The cut will give off a strong casual vibe, especially when the long section is styled roughly. As a tip, use a matte-finish wax to style the look and achieve a much cooler look.

7. Short, Layered Cut

This layered pixie cut is particularly suitable for women with delicate and fine facial features. It’s elegant and modern at the same time. Feathered short bangs and soft side bangs work very well with this haircut.

8. Curly Pixie

This is a cheeky and feminine style where the bangs are kept short and the sides a little longer. This way, the sides can be styled loosely around the ears so the face can be framed elegantly. This cut is great for women with natural curls or waves. After washing your hair, apply a small amount of hair mousse and then blow dry using a diffuser. As you do so, loosen your locks with your fingertips.

As a big volume style, it suits women with heart shaped faces. If you’re looking to recreate a big volume quiff, work a generous amount of volume powder through your hair. Gently tease the hair and fix it with spray. This style will look best with straight, smooth hair. Wavy or curly hair should be prepped using a flat iron.

10. Cropped Bob

This is a sophisticated look that suits women who prefer a minimalist style. Ideally, it’s a precise cut that features clean contours. The hair has to have some fullness to have the cut falling and flowing well. It’s especially hot right now in metallic nuances such as copper red or bright platinum. Bangs can be about the same length as the other hair or shorter.

11. Short and Curly

Yes, women with curls can wear their hair short. Natural, wild looks are actually really trendy. One good thing about a short haircut for women with curly hair is that your curls will look even better when they’re short. The lesser the weight, the more bounce you get. As a tip, ask your hairdresser for more advice on the kind of cut that will suit you best. Then, you will have an easy time styling it.

12. The Undercut

This is perfect for those girls who don’t mind getting extra attention. The look is usually the most dramatic when the sides are only shaved off two fractions of an inch. Hair at the top of your head will be significantly longer, and it can be styled however you want. The top part will look best if the roots have plenty of volume. You can boost your roots by applying some volume powder and then combing your hair backwards. This cut works well on women with curly or wavy hair.

13. Blunt Bob and Bangs

This is the archetypal “French Girl” look, and is more about hair care than hair styling. Do you want to get that genuine “I woke up like this” vibe? If so, show your hair all the love it needs before you even reach for any tools. A deep repair and conditioner treatment should soften and hydrate even the most damaged, dry, and color treated hair, to restore the shine. From there on you can air dry or use a straightener to smooth out the ends.

14. Gatsby Glam

This is a short, just-undone-enough style that gives out a major 21st century flapper vibe. It’s classy, classic, and cool, with slight waves and edgy layers.

15. Slicked Back

A well-done wet look is always timeless. But, it can be quite product heavy and time-consuming with long hair going halfway down your back. With less hair on your head, it’s easy to control and smooth out the look without using half a bottle of gel. To get this look, wait until your hair is half dry. Then, start twisting your strands from the hairline to the back in small section using an oil gel. As the hair dries, these twists will loosen up but stay closer to the scalp, giving a fresh-out-of-the-shower look.

Natural Makeup: What You Need To Know

Natural Makeup: What You Need To Know

Gone are the days when we do not care about what we put in or on our bodies. Humans have grown a better sense of self and environment, which is showing in our lifestyle and choices. One industry that has been influenced by this new awareness is the cosmetics industry.

The cosmetics market is a huge one with women always in search of the next big beauty product. Well, makeup is one beauty product that has been around since the times of the Egyptians and Greeks. In more modern times, the use of makeup has taken a new and interesting turn. Makeup is now being produced using natural or organic components instead of synthetic ones.

What does this mean for you, the average cosmetics user that just wants something pretty? Should you be shopping in the organic cosmetic aisle of your beauty store now? Is there any difference between using organic makeup and synthetic ones? This article will discuss the natural cosmetics world, and provide answers to some of your questions.

What Exactly Is Natural And Organic MakeUp?

Organic makeup has only started gaining importance and popularity recently. For most beauty product companies, making natural makeup products was born from a worldwide awakening. The average person now pays more attention to what they put on their face. They want to be sure it is the best quality and not toxic to themselves or the environment. This has cosmetics manufacturers scrambling to add an organic range of products to their product list.

But, it is important to understand that even if a product is labeled “natural,” “organic,” or “clean,” it does not mean that the product is the best. It also doesn’t mean that it is particularly good for you. As a matter of fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has no clear distinctions about what constitutes a natural product.

Since “natural” is not a regulated term for cosmetics, it is possible for brands to use it as a marketing term. The same goes for “organic.” The point is that in the cutthroat world of cosmetics, not all that glitters is gold. Having said that, there are some brands out there that truly have natural and organic makeup products. You just have to know which is which and avoid getting confused by marketing terms and labels.

There is also one more thing you should take note of when navigating the slippery slope of organic makeup. Even though you are buying a product with natural or organic ingredients, it does not mean it will not irritate your skin. It also doesn’t mean that you won’t experience any allergic reaction to it. Different people are allergic to different things, including natural products. The key takeaway here is to know your body and understand how it responds to products, natural or not.

What Are The Differences Between Natural And Synthetic Makeup?

Ingredients

There is a major difference between buying a tube of natural makeup and synthetic makeup. You were probably expecting this, as it is an obvious difference. But what exactly are those ingredients and how do they affect your body?

Generally, makeup is labeled as natural if it contains naturally sourced ingredients. These ingredients could include naturally sourced coloring pigments like fruit pigments. They can also include natural oils, herbs and fruits like cocoa, coconut and so on. These natural makeup products contain little or no synthetic or altered substances.

To make sure that you are buying an organic or natural cosmetic product, check the ingredients list.

Synthetic Preservatives

These are substances that are added to cosmetics to inhibiting the development of microorganisms in the product. This means they are there to prevent alterations in the makeup product and for it to stay viable for longer. They are also less expensive than natural preservatives. Examples of some of these synthetic preservatives include aldehydes, glycol ethers, parabens and so on.

Natural preservatives are a safer alternative and they perform the same function. But, they are usually not as effective. Some of the popular ones are Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, alcohol and so on.

Artificial Colorants

The thing you probably like best about regular makeup is how bright and attractive the colors are. That is great, but these bright colors are achieved through the use of synthetic dyes and pigments.

Some of these dyes contain chemicals that could contain toxins. They could also block your pores as they make contact with your skin. They do look pretty, but are they safe?

Natural makeup uses colorants that are usually plant-based and organic. Ingredients like turmeric (yellow), beetroot powder (red), and woad powder (blue) are viable alternatives. They might not be as bright, or give as many options, but they get the job done.

Artificial Fragrances

A lot of makeup products smell good, but how? Many makeup products list “fragrance” on the label. But the question is, what exactly makes up the ambiguous “fragrance” that is in the product?

That is where the issue is because there is probably a hodgepodge of chemicals in that fragrance alone. Be sure to read your labels before buying any makeup product. These fragrances are not a part of natural makeup.

Heavy Metals

To be fair, heavy metals like lead and arsenic are found in nature. They are used in cosmetics, including lipstick, eyeliner and so on. These metals are linked to several health issues. Even the ones that the body needs like iron are bad if it accumulates. These heavy metals are not used in organic makeup.

Cost

Another important difference between natural and synthetic makeup is the cost. Typically, natural makeup costs considerably more than synthetic makeup.

This is because it is more expensive and harder to source for natural products used in organic makeup. It is `easier and cheaper to source synthetic materials. This ease also means that it is possible to mass-produce synthetic makeup products. Natural makeup products usually need to be manufactured in small batches.

Benefits Of Using Natural And Organic Makeup

Not every natural or clean makeup brand is really worthy of the name. But, there are still some general benefits to using them. Some of them include:

Reduced Exposure To Harmful Ingredients

Natural makeup is made of natural or organic ingredients. They contain very little synthetic substances, while some contain none.

This makes them a lot safer to use, as some of those synthetic ingredients could be harmful to your body. Studies have linked many of the chemicals used in synthetic makeup to some health defects. For instance, high levels of the preservative Parabene have been linked to disruption during pregnancy.

A lot more research needs to be done to confirm many of these harmful effects. But it is obvious those chemicals are up to no good. If you have to buy synthetic makeup, check the labels. Skip any one with harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, and “fragrance.”

Lower Risk Of Skin Irritation

The various dyes, preservatives, colorants and fragrances in synthetic makeup could lead to what is called contact dermatitis. This is basically a fancy word for an itchy, angry looking red rash. This normally happens if you have a sensitive skin or if you are having an allergic reaction.

You are especially susceptible to these episodes of skin irritation if you use makeup, because it stays on for longer. Using organic makeup reduces your risk of skin irritation.

Safer For People With Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, that is, one that flares up at the smallest hint of an unusual or unknown substance. Then you are a candidate for natural makeup. Stay away from synthetic makeup, as it could be a trigger. You could break out in rashes and blotches every time.

For example, if you have eczema, it is recommended that you do not use makeup products with synthetic dyes. It will only aggravate the condition. Generally, natural make up is the best choice for anyone with skin conditions or naturally sensitive skin.

Contains Skin Healthy Substances

You have most likely heard the statement “your skin is popping,” or “your skin is glowing” before. That is usually not something that happens on its own. You have to make a conscious effort and follow an effective skincare regimen.

Incorporating natural makeup into your skincare regimen can help bring that healthy flush and glow to your face. Many organic cosmetics contain some plant extracts that can make this happen. They include avocado oil, shea butter, rosehip oil, jojoba oil and more.

These oils have been known to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and skin-repairing properties. Some have even been touted to help with anti-ageing.

Finally, organic makeup is usually colored using plant pigments like fruit extracts. You will most likely not find any scientific usefulness from these pigments to the skin. But it is generally believed that they nourish the skin with antioxidants and vitamins.

Fewer Odor-Inducing Headaches

Yes, this is actually a thing. It has been found that certain odors can trigger headaches in people with a history of migraines. For many, this could include fragrances used in makeup.

Remember, synthetic makeup contains artificial fragrances. These fragrances are usually used to mask a deeper odor or make the branding more attractive. This is why regular makeup might not be ideal for people that have a history of migraines.

Since natural makeup does not contain fragrances, this might be the ideal product if you are sensitive to fragrances or strong odors.

Disadvantages Of Using Natural And Organic Makeup

Shorter Shelf Life

One of the benefits of organic makeup is that synthetic preservatives are not used in making the product. The flip side of this is that the natural preservatives that are used are not as effective as the synthetic ones.

This means that the final product has a shorter shelf life. So if you are going for natural makeup, you had better use them up quickly.

Makeup Is Less Bright

This is another downside of natural makeup. Synthetic colorants have really bright and enticing colors.

The natural (usually plant based) dyes used in organic makeup on the other hand are not so bright and rich.

Smaller Shade Selection

Due to the fact that only natural dyes are used in organic makeup, manufacturers are limited to only a few shades. If you want to use natural makeup, you have to be content with the basic colors.

More Expensive

Natural cosmetics attract a higher price tag than their synthetic counterparts. This is due to the natural ingredients used in them, they don’t come cheap.

Best Natural Makeup Brands

Here are some of the best natural makeup brands worth buying if you are looking to get natural makeup.

100% Pure

This is a Natural, Organic, cruelty free makeup brand that you might want to check out. They have a range of vegan cosmetics that contain essential oils, antioxidants and naturally occurring vitamins that work really well on your skin. They are best known for fruit pigmented lip and cheek tint. The price of their products range from $7-$65.

Juice Beauty

This is another natural and organic, cruelty free makeup brand that works really well. They are USDA certified organic, so that is saying something. Their product prices range from $22 to $45.

Alima Pure

Alima Pure is a big name in the natural makeup industry. The brand never uses synthetic dyes and their products are cruelty free. Their pure satin matte foundation is their best seller. You can get some of their products for as low as $14.

W3ll People

W3ll People is a natural makeup company that believes in combining skin care and cosmetics. They are a minimalist makeup brand, perfect for those that do not like make up that much. You can get their products from $12 upward.

Conclusion

Natural cosmetics are in vogue at the moment and for good reason. They might be more costly than the alternative and offer fewer options. But they are safer and better for people with sensitive skin.

Before you run to the nearest beauty store, be sure to do your research well. Pick a brand that is tested and trusted. Picking a product labeled “natural” or “organic” might not always tell the full story.

10 Tips For Promoting Fingernail Health Between Salon Visits

10 Tips For Promoting Fingernail Health Between Salon Visits

We rarely look or feel better than when we leave the salon. Unfortunately, that feeling begins to fade through the week as your polish fades as well. But there are a lot of things you can do at home to care for your nails in-between salon visits. These little acts will keep your manicure look fresh and your self-esteem high. They’ll also keep your nails healthy, which is even more important.

1. Take Extra Care To Protect Your Nails Immediately Following A Manicure

The manicure isn’t necessarily complete just because you’ve stepped out of the office. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is immediately washing your hands after leaving. This can loosen the polish and diminish the lifespan of your new manicure. Keep in mind that it can take up to 12 hours total for some types of lacquer to harden. During that time, you want to avoid water and heat.

What’s one of the major sources of heat and water that you might encounter on any given day? The answer is the kitchen sink. Try to get any chores or dishes out of the way before getting your nails done. Once the manicure is complete consider a day off. This is the best way to guarantee long-lasting results.

On a related note, it’s always a good idea to wear gloves when washing the dishes or cleaning anything with chemicals. It doesn’t take long for a sink full of hot water and soap to weaken the foundation of the nail. Meanwhile, you’re adding a layer of dirt to the nail that will take further cleaning to remove.

2. Think About Your Diet

Need one more excuse to start a new diet? How about growing strong, healthy nails? Your diet affects so many aspects of your life outside of your weight. Your fingernail health is just one of those things. As an added bonus, a healthy diet can improve the appearance of your skin and hair.

Increasing proteins and increasing related vitamins should be at the top of your list. Your fingernails are made entirely of proteins. By adding more healthy sources of protein, such as fish or nuts, to your diet, you’re providing your body with more fuel for healthy nails. Certain vitamins, like Vitamin E, help improve the processes necessary for growing healthy nails. Adding both of these to your diet in the form of supplements or meals shouldn’t be difficult.

Blueberries are a great fruit when it comes to fingernail health. Not only are they loaded with healthy nutrients and vitamins, but they are also a powerful source of antioxidants. Free radicals in the body cause damage to a variety of cells, including cells in hair and nails. The antioxidants found in blueberries help protect the body against the free radicals and the damage they cause.

3. Don’t Skip Coats When Working From Home

If you’re doing your nails at home between manicure visits, you don’t want to make the work any harder by damaging your nails. One of the easiest ways to damage your nails at home is by applying polish to the nail without first applying a base coat.

The base coat serves two purposes. First, as mentioned, it protects the nail from damage or discoloration that the polish can cause. Second, the base coat helps improve the appearance of the polish. A single layer of base coat will cause the polish to become more opaque and noticeable.

The final layer you don’t want to skip is the topcoat. The job of the topcoat is to seal in the colors of the previous layers and provide a protective shield. The manicurist will apply a layer of topcoat at the salon, but that coating won’t last forever. You should reapply a new topcoat every two or three days if you want to maintain the look as long as possible.

4. Make Repairs Along The Way

Even the best-laid plans often fail. No matter how much you plan to protect your nails after leaving the salon accidents are bound to happen. That’s why you need to be prepared to make repairs along the way. An easy way to make this possible is by purchasing the same nail polish that they used at the salon. You can easily fix small breaks and cracks knowing you have an identical color.

Of course, you don’t have to break the bank on an expensive salon polish just to cover the occasional chip. You certainly don’t need to go through the trouble of taking all the polish off either. Just find a polish at the store that is as close in color as possible. Most people are not going to notice a small coverup unless they are very close to the nail.

It’s possible to do the same with a gel manicure. But, some experts suggest returning to the salon to fix a chipped nail if you have a gel manicure. Once chipped, the gel becomes much easier to chip in the future. The damage could spread quickly or the gel could lift from the nail entirely.

5. Pay Attention To Your Cuticles

In an ideal world, dermatologists would recommend leaving the cuticle alone entirely. The cuticle serves a very important job outside of how it makes the nail look. The cuticle forms a type of seal at the base of the nail. This seal prevents debris and bacteria from entering the area and causing an infection. When you cut or remove a cuticle you are damaging this natural layer of protection and increasing your risk of damage.

But, some minor cuticle maintenance can help along the way. Many experts recommend the use of a gentle cuticle oil. These oils are made with ingredients that can penetrate deep beyond the layers of polish, nail, and skin. Cuticle oil can be applied daily and its benefits will generally increase with time.

Finally, if you are hoping for less cuticle over your nail, you can gently push back on the cuticle following a shower or bath. This is a much safer option compared to cutting a cuticle. They even make specialized devices called cuticle pushers for this purpose.

6. Try To Limit The Bad Habits

There are several bad habits that many people have which are detrimental to the health of your nails. That’s not including the bigger bad habits like smoking or alcohol, which can have a variety of negative health consequences. No. These are simple habits that we often do when we feel nervous, embarrassed, or angry.

A very common bad habit that people have is chipping away at a layer of polish. This usually starts when a single, small chip appears in the paint. From that point forward, you begin to chip away at the spot until you’ve eventually removed all the polish. Not only is this bad news for your hard-earned manicure, but it actually weakens and damages the nail beneath.

The cuticles are another place people often pick at when they should simply leave it alone. It’s just a tiny piece of skin that always seems to be in the way. This bad habit can become second nature after a few years. You may not even notice yourself picking away while someone is talking. Trying to catch and stop habits like these can be difficult but your nails will thank you.

7. Keep Fingernail Health A Main Priority

We all want to have long, beautiful nails. So much so that it’s easy for you to place the appearance or length of your nails above their actual health. This is a serious mistake that many people have come to regret. Nail health should always be the top priority.

Many dermatologists recommend sticking with a shorter length nail whenever possible. A shorter nail is much easier to maintain and its less likely to suffer any sort of serious damage. A shorter nail can look much cleaner and more organized as well. Just make sure that all the nails are kept at the same length.

8. Know What To Look For

One of the smartest moves you can make is arming yourself with the necessary knowledge. More specifically, learning how to diagnose the health of your nails at home. If you know the warning signs of unhealthy nails, then you can alert your dermatologists at the first signs of a problem. Recognizing the signs of healthy nails is equally as important.

A few signs of an unhealthy nail include tiny white spots on the nails, splitting or peeling nails, and swollen skin around the nails. Most of these are warning signs of bad habits. Other, such as an irregularly shaped nail, could be a sign of something more serious like an iron deficiency.

The signs of healthy nails are all the things that you look for right after leaving the salon. White-tipped nails at even length, uniform cuticles across all nails, nail plates with an opaque pink and white color. The visible signs of a healthy nail will greatly improve the appearance of your manicure. Just another reason to keep up with proper fingernail health between your appointments.

9. Have The Tools And Know When To Use Them

We’re not saying you need to build your own salon at home, but there are a handful of nail care tools that you should always keep handy. We’ve already covered a couple of these, such as repair polish and a cuticle pusher, but there are still a few more worth covering. The most important and obvious of all is a pair of fingernail clippers.

Your nails need to be trimmed on a regular schedule to maintain a uniform appearance. Most experts agree that clipping your nails once every two weeks is usually best. But, it’s possible your nails will respond differently. You may need to increase or decrease the frequency slightly. At any rate, don’t wait for manicure appointments to clip your nails.

A nail file is another important tool to keep handy at all times. It’s particularly useful for people who live an active life or who have a hands-on job. A nail file is the perfect tool for sanding away any rough spots or minor points of damage. Using a file is extremely easy. You simply work the file in a uniform direction with the nail’s natural grain. Investing in a high-quality glass nail file instead of the cheap, throwaway alternatives is advised.

Finally, keep some cleaning supplies specifically for your nail tools. Your nails need to stay free from infection if they’re going to remain healthy and beautiful. That requires regularly cleaning the tools you use to clip, scrub, and push your nails. You can easily clean these tools with soap and water or buy special cleaning supplies.

10. Stop Biting Those Nails

We’ve already covered a few bad habits, but nail-biting is so bad that it deserves a topic of its own. Millions of people across the globe bite their nails on a daily basis without paying the act much attention. It’s one of the toughest habits to quit because it is extremely difficult to catch yourself in the act. There are many possible triggers, such as anxiety or boredom. It’s good to learn what triggers cause you to begin biting.

If you can stop yourself before you begin biting your nails, then you can quickly replace the activity with something less destructive. Which replacement activity will work for you may be unique. Some people find comfort with a stress ball. Other people are able to distract themselves with a fidget spinner. You may even be able to find something a little better to chew on like some beef jerky. Just find something that works and stop biting your nails.

Use these ten tips to care for your nails between your salon visits and increase your fingernail health. They’re simple, affordable, and will make a world of difference. You might even realize you add an extra week or two between appointments.
